The morning it was raining and cool I got total soak running the snare line I had 4 snares sets and 2 were knocked over and one caught this beaver. I messed up my back bad so I am having a hard time running traps. Tomorrow I am going to see if I can get it fixed. I found another beaver pond further down stream but I didn't make any sets. It looked like a first year pond so I didn't want to set any snares or traps there. I will check it again next fall but I think I will let it go for a couple of years so the population can grow. Now if nobody else will trap it. The area is difficult to get into so hopefully the other trapper will leave it alone. He usually only traps ponds he can drive to and then he wipes them out.

Beautiful catch! Is it light colored?
Sorry about your aching back. Hope you can get it fixed soon.
Will you roast the beaver?

The beaver is worth more to me to be used as bait for fox, coyote, and pine marten but I am thinking about brown sugar curing the back half and then smoking it. I really need the furs this season. I will trade the beaver skin for fox skins for my tanning classes.
