I am only able to run a short snare line right now because my back is messed up and I am going to the Dr. again today. I wish Ron was closer because he fixed it right the first time, than I twisted it again. This is good though because it shows that is a survival situation in 2 days I have snared and trapped enough to feed myself for a couple of weeks with the meat and the fur is a bonus using only 4 snares and 2 #1 muskrat traps. I set 2 muskrat traps and have caught 4 muskrats in 2 days. Muskrat sign is hard to find in the high country because their den entrances are under 4 or 5 ft of water. The only muskrat sign you will find is feed beds in the tall grass and willows in the beaver ponds. This is a feed bed that I set a #1 stop loss trap on. This is one of the 4 muskrats that I caught in these feed beds which are nothing more than a small mat of cut grass. Today's beaver was snared around the neck but for some reason it didn't kill the beaver so I had to shoot it. This is one huge beaver that I had to pack out (another reason I have to go to the Dr.). I had to lay down on the pack and then I had to grab the willows to pull myself to my feet. Even in a pack basket beaver are hard to pack out because their weight shifts constantly throwing me off balance.

Hey Badhand do you ever rough skin them on the spot? Makes for a lot less weight to carry out. Plus opportunity to catch a yote or two with the carcass left behind.
