My back is feeling better I am hitting the trap line tomorrow but today I fleshed and stretched the skin from the big beaver that I trapped. The board the skin is stretched on measures 48"X31" and this skin fills it up. No wonder that beaver was hard to pack out this is huge. Beaver are measured and sold by the inch length plus width This beaver measures 47"X 31" for a total of 78" or in trapper speak it is a super blanket beaver. It was one hard beaver to skin I will smooth up the hide with a sander once it is dry.

Reminds me of an old story grandpap used to tell about an uncle he had, lived up in the hills in a fair ta middlin cabin, had him a squaw gal. He'd been out trappin and come a walkin home with pelts over his shoulder and swiggin on a jug fer ta cellybrate. Said his uncle flang open the cabin door and with a wild look on his face pulled out a big ole skinner blade and hollered,I'M A GONNA SKIN THAT BEAVER!!!!!! He said that squaw gal lit out out through the square wall hole like a banny hen with a rabid weasel on er tail takin that brand new plate glass winder as she went=============>All she left was a couple beads and some strands of hair,he never saw ner heard of er agin.Made a little arm band from the leavins and wore till he died...said he pondered and pondered over it and just couldn't figger what spooked her and never took up with anuthern At theres a true story, give er take a lie er two ;D

That is one huge beaver. Won't be beaver season here for another couple months. I love trapping them, but sometimes not so much the skinning and fleshing and stretching....
