Always good and exciting to see the bison. Good to see all their little babies, too! Looks like the guy has been blessed with many this year. I would have liked to have gotten out for a closer look at those little ones especially, but I had to get back home to the turkey I left cooking in the oven. Was being mom's taxi so was on a 'mission' and just happened to be in the neighborhood. These bison are so awesome. I'm so envious of the guy that has them! I'l have to to try to get back over there and take some more pics before it snows again, hopefully.. They're only about 5 miles from here and the source of most of the skin I have to work with here. Just figured I'd share the cool picture I did manage to snap from the car.

Yes they are magnificent creatures ! Must be nice to have them close by. Buffalo story: I use to live in the Mussels Shell Valley of Central Montana. I worked as a cook for an archery club there. The guys would leave early in the am way before light and head out to their favorite places to sit. One guy had put up a tree stand down in the willows and was waiting patiently for an elk to saunter past. He said he could hear a large group of animals approaching through the woods, he said the closer they got the more noise they made. He said they sounded like pigs and so he was perplexed as to what they could be. He said it was pitch dark and as the early morning light arrived, he could see that surrounding him in his tree stand, was a herd of buffalo. Keep in mind that the Musselshell River Valley was the last area for free ranging buffalo in the the USA. This herd had broken out of its confines at a buffalo ranch seventeen miles to the east and had made their way back to the valley their ancestors had roamed. The hunter had to wait until they wandered on past him and down river a ways before he climbed down from his stand and came back to the lodge to report his amazing adventure. It took ranchers three days of harrassment to get the buffalo back to the ranch. Occasionally you will see a skull that has washed out of the river banks or find a rare one in the outback of central Montana. Pretty cool to have some so close to you Paulette. Do they sell the tongues? What all do you get from them?
