Well hopefully the softening goes well... tanning 3 more beaver skins and tails and an unprime gray fox with the LutanF tanning solutions after pickling with citric acid.. key is shaving and returning to the pickle and degreasing properly.. anyway I've got hope the skins will soften super.. By braintanner101 at 2011-11-08 By braintanner101 at 2011-11-08 By braintanner101 at 2011-11-08 The blue-grayish cast on the far left is a reflection of the fur from the computer screen.. really glossy and very nice and soft SO FAR! Now to wait until the skins are 80% dry to begin to soften them.

Thank you White Dove! The fur skins are definitely tanning easier. I'm case skinning each beaver skin I get! course I'm messing them all up just a bit.. each one.. when I start getting decent at case skinning them, fleshing and tanning them I plan to make those musket ball shot bag things.. be COOL.. Beavers tails are very pretty. and VERY hard to case skin! but the more of them I practice on the better I think I can get.. it's a challenge NOT to mess them up.. I would imagine a really finely tanned beavers tail turned shot bag might be well something unusual enough to earn some $$.. ya never know. Certainly is a bit novel..er unique.. rare... better to cut up the beavers tails than my fingers.. lol.
