some of my rendezvous and treks I like to be as correct as I can, and I've done a little research on period foods. I'd like to share ideas on foods with anyone else. This is how I make my parched corn,,, Catch your local grocer selling ears of fresh corn at about 25 cents an ear. ( or visit your local Mandans and trade for corn) , pull back the husk on each ear, hang in the dryest place you can find inside the house ( anyones house). After about a week, it'll look dark yellow and shriveled up. Spread a towel on a table, sort of a twist and roll in the palms of your hands and the corn falls off the ear. ( a little ouch) , it's ready to go! It can now be put in your food sack, or I keep it in the fridge until I'm ready to use it. It's simple, it's the same as drying out in the corn crib. When you get to camp, you can boil it with some dried meat, or add it to stew. I've bought this stuff already dried, I think it's called dehydrated corn. Just make sure you don't hang it anywhere it might get moisture, and don't use it if you see mold on it. Thats just one pc food.
