You know those little bottles of hand sanitizer that most everyone uses, I keep a bottle in each of my vehicles. You can buy them in a large size or a very small size that will fit in your pocket. So, here's how they come in handy. A few squirts of the hand sanitizer in a small depression on the ground, lit it and you've got a good fire going that you can add some wood.
Another tip, want to heat that can of Beanie Weinee or stew before eating it while out there, add about 7 or 8 drops in a depression, lite it and hold the can over the fire. It will burn long enough to heat the contents in your can of food.
A small bottle of that stuff in your daypack, or emergency pack will come in handy for cleaning your hands, heating your food and getting a good warm fire going.

i read in a backwoodsmen magazine, that you can use vasoline cotton balls and drinking straws to start a fire. rub vasoline on cottonballs until covered, roll cottonballs between palms of both hands to make it long, then shove it into straw.take a cigerrette lighter and melt both end of straw to seal.it is now completely water proof.to use cut a slit in straw bend enough to allow cottonball to come out.pull cottonball out just a little bit use a magnesium striker.the cottonball catches sparks.it will burn up catching straw on fire.it will burn long enough to get wood to burn.i would imagine a flint and steel striker will work

Any of yall ever used plastic explosive to warm up your rations LOL, he's not kidding folks. C4 will burn, and it was used in the past (in the C-Rat days) to heat meals. It takes a blasting cap to set the stuff off Bob
