Are you going to eat it? They really don't look like they would be bad to eat, I just don't know anyone who has and never really heard anything about anyone who has. Yeah I wouldn't want to get slapped by any cats either. hellacious claws on any cat.. you have cougar down there? My kids swear to god they saw one right across the street one day and they drew it too and the three of them's it's hard not to believe it. I have chickens that I let run loose everyday and with two roosters trying to outcrow one another it could be pretty easy pickins for a hungry cat.

I've yet to try coon myself but would definitely try it if I would know how to prepare it. As for big cats....we do have some cats down here. I spend time in the woods around south central Louisiana and me and a few others have seen cats before. Not big cougars, but more like the Florida Panther variety. Most people will say we dont have any, but then theres those of us who know the real deal. Just seein' it makes the hairs rise on back 'ya neck. Beautiful animals but I would not want to dance with one either.
Good luck with the coons.

The color of the ones we saw were tan just like the big cougars or mountain lions up north. The Florida Panther I'm referin to is just a smaller cougar. I'm not aware of any black ones being sighted, but you never know around here.
