OK well the first coon set I ever maid was called fish on a stick. Ever hear of it? Wat ya do is get a medium size perch or a small native fish from Your area. Take your trap to that creek find a place wear their AR coon tracks. Get a stake and attach the trap to it drive the stake in the watter under watter out in the watter. set the trap 3-4" under watter then take the fish an wire it to a wood steak and drive out in the watter 2 foot from trap above watter. go get your coon in the morning. do you follow?

you can also use a snare in a piece of pvc pipe with a snare in it set it up on the bank. Take 3 ft of pvc pipe with a small hole drilled in one end of it and drive the other end into the ground about 2 ft put a snare through the hole and use a small stick to keep it on place. weight the other end of the snare with a rock or several lead weights like an ojibwe bird trap then pour honey into the pipe leaving a little on the outside and the top. the coon will reach into the pipe for more and snare his leg. Works real well and doesn't scare others in the area. You can really hit the jackpot if you're working a good area. Did this as a kid with metal pipes. Tab

If you are trapping in your backyard, or property, try a campfire set. They get used to going through trash and human leftovers, so make a small fire and put a bit of bacon or such in the fire to partly burn. After the fire is out and the coals are cold, bed your trap with a good pan cover in the ashes, with the partially burnt food under a rock in the fire pit. they will cirlcle the rock looking for the easiest way to get at it, and if you have your trap bedded well, you will have a coon in the morning. Also, dont forget the basics. Clean traps, bedded well, pan covers, will all pay off. I double stake with rebar for coons. They get caught and tend to "pump" against the chain, and you dont want to have some coom running off with your trap. Tends to get expensive. As far as clean traps, I start with them boiled and dyed. I set them on dry land sets. After I have caught something , or it has been sprung, I use the same trap in a water set. Since it is under water, it still works fine. That way I get to use it twice before cleaning it. For baited sets, I prefer the bank set, that was previously mentioned with pvc pipe. I bait those with cat food. Stuff stinks to high heaven. I use a stick to push it down the pipe and it is good to go. Well, thats enough for now! Jon
