got three pieces of satisfactory wood hollowed out. One piece 7 in. secound piece 10 in. last piece 16in. I`m worn out mentally and physcially. Ruined three pieces gettin in to big a hurry. workin on a couple that I hope will be hickory. Sumac works great. My turtle pipe will be a trinket to see if it works. Not gonna use my real good wood on it as like I said it`s a trinket. Will post pic when I can borrow a camera. Mine got confiscated by soon to be x wife.

eureka they work. I made a pipe from a turtle and a pipe from a snail. Both pieces were ceramic/chalk and they work. Like I said they are toys/trinkets made just to see if I could hollow ouut pieces of wood. hollow out the turtle and snail and make working pipes. Would have had fun with these back in the 70`s.

for getting holes through those 2 ft. stickes for pipe stems i use a red hot coat hanger wire it burns about a half an inch at a time but if youre stem is straight it works just fine ,the indians used a hot coal and gravity but this works the same . i'm from wyoming and have been making pipes for 20 to 30 years . good luck moon
