seems like everyone i run into has something different for patch lube, but here's mine and i copy what i know a few good ones do. I take lard (tallow works better), and beeswax and heat together until i get a mix thats softer than a candle, but a little thicker than grease. I hope that makes sense, i don't have a ratio to go by. I like it because it stays thick enough in the summer heat, and thin enough in the winter. After I shoot a few rounds I might have to run a rod through the barrel and remove fouling, but it's easy and i only have to do it once. With name brands i have to clean about every 3 shots, with my stuff i can make it 6 or 7 shots and it still cleans out with just one wiping. I own a few muzzleloaders and not one of them has any blueing or browning, they are just plain metal. You'll find me laying my gun anywhere, and i'll hunt in the rain, snow, or any time. I'll use that same mix to keep mine from showing signs of rust. It's been working out great for a long time. But as for a lube, if i don't spit patch, i don't have as much trouble with fouling. Beeswax can be found at hobby lobby, tallow is hard to find but lard can be had at any grocery store.
