While I'm waiting on material for other projects I started this one.. something I've always wanted. I've started inletting the barrel, it's way too hot in the shop right now. Here's the original I'm sort of copying..

The sawed off trade gun isn't going very good. I said I would never buy another kit but I did anyway. I'm just about done inletting the barrel but it did not come with lugs so I'll have to make them and solder them on. The barrel channel was cut wrong to begin with, but I think i've got it cleaned up and won't need bedding. The hardest part is the swamp barrel, it's real strange to have a taper in the middle of such a short barrel. If originally sawed off I would have thought the flare at the end would be eliminated.
The lock is terrible, it's cut too low and I don't know if there's room to raise it up where it should be, it's going to have an odd gap at the bottom of the lock i'm afraid. I like the pictures you posted Redthunder, do you have a close-up of the lock?

Might as well type another thing,, on these octagon to round barrels, originally the bottom part of the octagon was rounded off... not really an octagon , they round off two flats. All the barrels today are octagon, so it's harder to inlet a barrel than the originals. With a swamped barrel even the octagon is tapered, it's really hard to deal with all the angles. It's even worse when they roughly pre-inlet it wrong. Your's in the pictures Redthunder is a Barnett, but it's been converted to percussion I bet , maybe a good close-up will show it.

Humm.. may have to try to make one of these. If you do want to make one, I'm suggesting you NOT buy a kit , this is the second time I've put a kit together and it wasn't cut right. I was warned after the first time , by a good gun builder, that most kits are not cut correct, this one is bad enough I should probably throw out the stock , buy an uncut blank and work it down myself. These things are thrown together by sellers, the stock is cut by the lowest bidder, he uses whatever specs are giving to him. The parts are bought by whoever sells them the cheapest, and often they will change, when they do change so does the specs in the stock... thats my problem now. The serpent, the lock, the trigger, and of course the barrel all have to line up according to how the stock is cut ,, one change and the whole thing is a mess. I'll be real lucky if this turns out half good.
